Marketing Tip_Mobile First

Websites have come a long way. Remember way back a few years ago (ok - think like 2013) when you were really just building an online brochure and it didn't really matter how it looked on a smartphone? No one was really using phones to go to your website (or so you told yourself) and when they got there, they could just zoom in and out to see the content.

Well - those days are long gone.

The numbers are actually pretty staggering! In 2013, mobile searches on Google only made up about 16% of all searches. In 2019, that number has skyrocketed to over 52%! Yes - more searches are done via mobile phone today than on desktops or laptops.

So if your website isn't focused on mobile functionality and usability, you're severely impacting your business and the usefulness of your website.

That's why it's time (well past time) to be thinking mobile-first when it comes to building and maintaining your website.

What is Mobile-First?

Mobile-first is a shift in thinking for your website. Instead of building and maintaining a website that looks great on a desktop while just making the mobile version functional or "good enough", your priority shifts to creating a great user experience on a mobile device with a secondary focus on desktop functionality.

It's simple - if more people are using your website on their phone, spend more time there to make it a great user experience.

How can you make your website more mobile friendly?

It's pretty simple actually - make your mobile website your priority. That means making your mobile speed, element size, spacing, and mobile functionality a focus instead of an afterthought. We recommend testing your website constantly on different mobile devices, using Google PageSpeed Insights to continuously measure your mobile speed, and utilizing Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) for faster blog post load times and a seamless experience.

There are a lot of things that you can do to make your website the lead generation machine you want it to be. Ready to dive in? Check out our top tips on How to Refresh Your Website for 2020.
