The main purpose of a thank you page is to confirm with your visitors that you have received their form submission. The contents of the thank you page will depend on why they filled out the form on the landing page that took them to your thank you page. Here are some best practices to keep in mind when designing your next thank you page based on what type of form they filled out.

Was the form submitted for a content download?

If this was the case, the first thing the thank you page should include is a  thank you message that is tailored specifically for that download. For example, thank you for downloading our (insert the name of download here). Then provide them with a button that begins the download they signed up for.

The next thing you want to include is call outs to similar content that you think this visitor would be interested in downloading. Each call out should have its own button or image that links to another unique landing page and form. Think about the next step in their buyer's journey - what will help them move further down that path?

Was the form submitted to join a mailing list or blog subscription?

For a mailing list thank you page, a simple thank you message does the trick. The most important aspect of this type of thank you page is simply acknowledging that this person is now officially on your mailing list.

If this thank you page is for a blog subscription, then it is a good idea to also feature your three latest blog posts or your most popular blog posts at the bottom of the page.

Was the form submitted to show interest in a product or service?

Similar to the thank you page we recommend for content downloads, this thank you page should include a thank you message that is unique to the product or service they were interested in. Then let the visitor know what they can expect moving forward. For example, thank you for your interest in (Product) a member of our team will be in touch with you in (specific amount of time). It's important to let your prospect know exactly what they can expect. Be as specific as possible.

Then you can highlight some blog posts or content about the product or similar products or services that you think they would be interested in. Each with their own unique descriptions, images, and links to landing pages.

Was the form submitted to show interest in a career?

If this is the case, thank them for their interest and inform them what they can expect moving forward. For example, thank you for your interest in working at (your organization) we look forward to reviewing your credentials. A member from our team will be in touch with you within (time) if we are interested in moving forward.

Lastly, one thing that all thank you pages should have, regardless of what you're thanking the visitor for, is to include your website's navigation. It is a best practice to allow the visitor to freely explore your website again now that they have filled out the form on the previous landing page. With these points in mind, you are well on your way to designing thank you pages that will delight your visitors and keep them coming back for more!
