Google Analytics is doing away with Universal Analytics
Listen up if you use Google Analytics to track data for your marketing initiatives! Google has announced that they will "stop processing new hits on July 1, 2023" for Google Analytics 3 aka Universal Analytics aka UA. This means that come July 1st of 2023, you will no longer be able to access any historical data unless you export your data.
You will need to set up GA 4 SOON!
If you are planning on looking at year-over-year data, you will want to set up GA 4 as soon as possible because GA 3 data will not migrate over (at least that is what Google is saying so far).
How do you switch from GA3 to GA4?
If you already have App+Web property then you already have access to the GA4 property (GA4 is just a new name for App+Web property). If not, follow these steps to learn how to easily upgrade your GA account:
- Navigate to Admin
- Click on GA4 Setup Assistant
- Click on Get Started under "I want to create a new Google Analytics 4 property"
- Create Property
- Set up your GTM with the new measurement ID so that you can start collecting data with GA4!
