Marketing Tip_Email Subject Lines

We've all heard it - "email is dead." While, hopefully you know that's completely false, it is important to understand that, as consumers, our email inboxes are inundated with emails from everywhere and seemingly everyone

So how do you stand out and get your emails opened?

Open rates are a huge indicator of email success today because capturing that attention is getting harder and harder. In order to get someones attention enough to get them to open your emails, you have to get creative, but also feel human in your subject lines. Let's look at a few of our top tips for your email subject lines:

Use personalization

Adding personalization to your email subject lines is a sure fire way to, at the very least, get someone to read your subject line. Call out your prospect or customer's first name or business name and you'll be more likely to get an open.

Avoid misleading your openers

There is nothing worse than misleading your readers in order to trick them into opening your email. You may get the open, but you'll undoubtedly lose their trust. Be honest and don't exaggerate, embellish, or mislead your audience about what is inside.

Understand your audience

Depending on your audience, the way that you handle subject lines should change. One of the biggest things to really consider with your audience is their reception to emojis. Does your audience love them or hate them? Use them to your advantage to stand out if you have a younger, more technologically savvy, laid back audience. Avoid them if you have an older and more professional audience.

Avoid those spammy words

Save! Sale! Limited Time! XX% OFF! I bet you tune out when you start seeing those keywords in a subject line - just like everyone else. It's also important to realize that those same spammy words that turn your prospects off are more likely to trigger spam filters. Lose those advertising words.

A/B test

Like with any other kind of marketing, there really is no silver bullet answer. What you need to do at the end of the day is to test. Send multiple subject lines and measure. Pay attention to how your audience responds to your tests and continue to use that learning moving forward.
