Monday Marketing Tip_Bad Content

As every marketer knows, content is kingđź‘‘. Great content can drive visitors to your website, build up your reputation as a credible source for information, and lead to higher conversion rates. However, if your website has bad content, you can say goodbye to all those awesome benefits.

Here are the top three ways to write BAD content and how to FIX it.

1. Stuff Those Keywords

❌The Mistake: Keywords are wonderful. They can get your website on the digital map and in front of potential customers, so just go crazy with them. Jam a bunch of keywords into your title so it looks something like “Best Gardening Tips for Gardeners who Love Summer Gardening in Their Colorado Garden.” And don’t forget to mention your keywords as many times as possible in the copy.

âś…The Fix: If one of your content goals is improved search engine optimization (SEO) to get your pages ranking higher on Google searches, avoid keyword stuffing at all costs. You should target 1-3 keywords that you really want to rank for, then use the most important one once in the title and a few times throughout the text. At the end of the day, your article should read like a human wrote it for another human, not a keyword crawler.

2. Write Big Chunks of Text

❌The Mistake: If there’s one thing that’ll keep people on your page, it’s a dense block of text. There’s nothing better than scrolling through line after line of content, trying to find the answer to the one question you were initially searching for. Bonus points if most of that text is actually just repeated keywords!

âś…The Fix: No one wants to read a dissertation when they click into your blog post. Keep the language as well as the format concise and engaging while meeting the appropriate word count. This means breaking up your paragraphs into just a few sentences, using clear headings, and implementing bulleted lists for easy scanning when necessary. Your readers will thank you.

3. Forget About Proofreading

❌The Mistake: First time’s the charm, right? So go ahead, hit publish, and send that blog out into the world without ever looking back. Who cares if there are spelling mistakes or a missing header tag? The brilliance of your blog will shine through all the minor blemishes.

âś…The Fix: While one misspelled word might not seem like a big deal, it can crush your credibility in an instant. Always, always, always proofread your work. After that, have a colleague proofread your work. Finally, before you hit publish, read it out loud one more time to check for any little errors that flew under the radar.
